Robert W. Bailey
is the president of Computer Psychology, Inc. He approaches the
issues related to human factors and user interface design from the
perspective of a computer psychologist with over 30 years
of experience. He holds a Ph.D. degree from Rice University
in human performance psychology, and has an international reputation
as an author, researcher and lecturer.
Dr. Bailey
draws from years of experience in the Human Performance Technology
Center at Bell Laboratories. While there, he conducted studies
on ways to improve human performance and increase user acceptance.
He participated
in the development of numerous systems and pioneered many new ideas,
including a useful user interface design model, numerous ways to
understand and reduce human errors, the effective use of user profiles,
and usability testing techniques.
Dr. Bailey
has served on the faculties of numerous schools, including Columbia
University and Stevens Institute of Technology. He continues
to instruct computer professionals in major corporations throughout
the world, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe,
Asia, Africa and Australia.
Dr. Bailey
is the author of numerous published articles, an annual User
Interface Update and two popular textbooks, Human Performance
Engineering: A Guide for System Designers (Third Edition, Prentice-Hall,
1996) and Human Error in Computer Systems (Prentice-Hall,
1983). He has also the co-developed numerous software products.
