INTREPID EXPLORATION

Our innovation process follows the principles of Human Centered Design, with empathy-led design research at its core. The people we design for are partners in our design process. Ideation for us is all about audacity, where we imagine what could be, and find ways to bring these ideas to life. We follow an iterative design cycle where prototypes are tested with real people in actual use environments, which helps us deliver thoroughly refined solutions that people will love to use.

The scale of our projects ranges from product and neighbourhood-level to enterprise level solutions, creation of design standards, and policy.

WHAT AND WHY

What are the areas we will serve, and why? We’d like to think of our role as change makers who want to understand ecosystems and find ways to make a meaningful contribution to people’s lives.

We have no preconceptions regarding the format of the solution, i.e., it will take whatever shape it needs to solve the problem, and will not be either based on or limited by the capabilities of the Design Studio team. Whatever skillsets are required to get the job done will be incorporated into the project through various channels like partnerships or collaborations, part-time hiring of experts and volunteers.

Process

RESEARCH AND DESIGN, PARTNERSHIPS, COLLABORATION

WORKING STYLE

We are collaborators. While the activities at the Lab may be driven primarily by designers and researchers, we believe in bringing several perspectives to a problem. These partnerships may take us across disciplines, industries, geographies, cultures, and societies.

We are reflexive; we challenge our own assumptions, findings, and output.

The unique requirements of each project will inform a customised strategy that helps us form the right teams and partnerships, allocate resources, and develop capabilities.
