Graphic Treatment

Eric points to a chart on the wall and says, "Extensive data gathering and testing reveals this design is optimized for experience and performance." Big Bucks the Manager is bored with Eric's talk and is seen sleeping.

When Big Bucks wakes up, he tells Eric, "Keep up the great work. We love the marble motif." Eric looks shocked.

Eric goes to Art the Visual Artist and tells him, "We need to talk..."

Gist: Executives often ignore work done on the structure of the design and its operation. Instead, all they see is the graphic treatment. This can often frustrate usability professionals.

However, the graphic work certainly needs to be done well. If nothing else to make the executives happy.

This cartoon is modeled after an actual project where the only thing executives seemed to notice was the nice marble treatment to the interface.
