HFI helps The Times of India do a usability overhaul

Human Factors International worked with Times Internet Ltd, one of the leading media companies in South Asia, on the redesign of The Times of India (one of India’s leading daily newspapers) and Indiatimes Cricket Web sites. The redesigned sites have been launched recently; timesofindia.indiatimes.com  and cricket.indiatimes.com.

HFI addressed Indiatimes’ requirement of understanding the user needs across these channel offerings with an aim to create a strong brand image and increase revenues through improved user experience.

Following the Schaffer-Weinschenk Method of user-centered design, HFI started with an expert evaluation, then did in-depth data gathering with users, reworked the information architecture and navigation, culminating in the final implementation and creation of standards.

HFI did extensive user research across varied user profiles ranging from metro cities to emerging towns, across various age groups and economic strata. Attention was given to understanding the cultural specific issues and motivations of Indians and non-resident Indians while interacting with these Web sites. Special consideration was given to the emerging trends on Web 2.0.

According to The Times of India's announcement of the redesign, "We have redesigned applying the best usability principles to ensure a pleasurable reading, viewing and interactive experience for you. The depth and width of the Web site has been brought forth at easy reach, laid out in an uncluttered way so that you can find what you are looking for."
