Executive Director
Human Factors International, Inc.

Mona Patel is the VP for the Eastern Region of HFI’s USA operations. She is an experienced Human Factors practitioner who has spent her career focused on understanding and choreographing user experiences.  She has worked on projects for all types of interfaces, including websites, web applications, software, voice interfaces, handheld devices, consumer products and medical devices.

Mona is passionate about user experience. Her primary interest is in studying and understanding people, and specifically what makes them click. She pioneers new research methodologies (including PET) that focus around truly understanding the emotion and rationality surrounding how people make decisions. She excels in this field and has crafted strategies and insight that have helped Fortune 100 companies increase conversion and build a stronger connection with consumers.

Very practical by nature, Mona is often her client’s first resource on user-centered design strategy, including helping them incorporate usability practices into their day-to-day development and marketing processes. Recently, her work has concentrated in the financial and healthcare sectors.

In Finance, the focus has been on improving efficiency of transaction-oriented interfaces while exploring how to use visual design elements to inspire trust, loyalty and a desire to learn more about new offerings by that bank. Recent clients include many groups within Citi, Rabobank,  and UBS.

In Healthcare, Mona's role has been in managing teams and projects to help clients understand what makes their customers want to connect, share, interact and learn on matters as private as one’s health. Clients have ranged from top pharmaceutical companies to general health information sites (WebMD) to over 10 different health insurance sites, including those sites targeted at the 65+, Spanish speaking, or low income target populations.

Mona is a frequent presenter of innovative topics in both local and national usability conferences and is one of HFI's highest rated instructors. Mona also helped develop HFI's new Persuasion, Emotion and Trust (PET)-focused methodologies and offerings, including specific methodologies such a PETscan and PETsort.

Mona holds a Master's degree in Mass Communication, with a focus in Advertising and Marketing from Boston University, and a Bachelor's degree in Human Factors and Ergonomics from Tufts University.
